This event has ended.
Shelby's Book Club met in April, May, and June 2024:
- In April, Shelby convened her book club with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
- In May, Shelby took over Challenge MAYnia with Reading MAYnia.
- In June, we're revisiting another classic as we go Around The World in 30 Days.
JUNE: Around the World in 30 Days
We're reading the Jules Verne classic Around the World in 80 Days, but we're compressing the timeline and finishing our activities in 30 days.
How do we do this event?
If you joined Shelby's Book Club for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, this will feel familiar. Keep reading for more on this chapter.
Event Series: Around the World in 80 Days
Based on destinations from the classic book, you will earn this special event series by completing book club missions (tradepost trades) -- or, if you're very lucky, by finding them in New Yolk.
Note: the EVENT is Around the World in 30 Days, but the EGGS are Around the World in 80 Days.
The ATW30D Tradepost!
Link: What is a Tradepost event?
There are FOUR types of trades in this ONE tradepost -- |
- Premium members can collect free H-Coins once per day.
- Send Shelby the eggs she requests and receive H-Coins. These trades will be one day only.
- Send Shelby the eggs she requests and receive decorations for your Eggventure Log. Most of these trades are also one day only.
- Redeem rewards just for reaching milestones of H-Coins collected (which stand in for miles traveled). Completing trades will NOT diminish your supply of H-Coins. A new milestone will be available every day, and they will stay available until the event ends.
A reminder about the tradepost and requested eggs:
If you find one of Shelby's requested eggs hunting, you can send the requested eggs from your basket report. Look for the Shelby Book Club icon to send it her way. Here's an example:
In April, here's what that looked like:
If you already stored the egg in question, you can send it to Shelby using the button in your profile:
Event currency: H-Coins
How do I get them? During this Eggventure, you'll earn H-Coins completing missions for Shelby. You can also find them in New Yolk.
What do I do with them?
1. Keep them. Earning H-Coins progresses your journey around the world and entitles you to tradepost rewards. Completing trades will NOT diminish your supply of H-Coins.
2. Spend them on decorations. Starting Monday June 3, you can use H-Coins to buy cartography supplies and other decorations for your Eggventure Log (decoration patch). Buying decos WILL take H-Coins away.
New scenery
As you progress on your journey, you'll see changes in scenery that reflect your progress. Look forward to the following "destinations" (no Travel Tickets required):
Scrambled Savanna | Bunny Bayou | Rabbit's Roost
Deviled Dunes | Jackalope Jungle | Omelette Isles
How do I make a map? Is that decorating my Eggventure Log patch?
You start with a blank canvas (or parchment, if you prefer), and you can use all kinds of decos to create your travelog - in the form of a map, scrapbook, or whatever suits your fancy! |
Use H-Coins to buy decorations and turn your Eggventure Log into a record of your journey around the world! You can also get one deco per day from the event tradepost. Find decos in your attic.
NEW DECORATION FEATURE: "send to back" and "bring to front"
Don't you hate it when you've decorated something just so and an errant click gets the layers all out of order? Well, now you can double click to bring something to the front or send it to the back. This works great for sending an island behind your other map features.
How do I get the Book Club badges? (Update May 31 2024)
If you completed all your assignments for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, you were able to get a special Page-Turning Pilgrim badge (and maybe even a bonus badge, if you made it a 40,000-League round trip).
If you completed all your assignments during Reading MAYnia, you got this World Wayfarer badge to show off how much you traveled earning all those MAYnia points! People who doubled the trip got a psychedelic rainbow version.
How do you get the coveted Time Traveler badge? Collect enough H-Coins to go around the world in June! |
MAY: Reading MAYnia
Want to know more about Challenge MAYnia? Read the article here.
How do I participate?
You will be awarded 1–6 points for each challenge you complete. Click on the Challenge MAYnia tradepost icon pictured here to check your point total and to claim rewards, including keys, shells, ubers, and special event eggs. Points are cumulative, so claiming a prize will NOT decrease your point total, and can help you work toward the next reward level! |
What is the event series?
There are two Reading MAYnia eggs associated with each travel location open during Challenge MAYnia, for a total of ten. You'll be getting the eggs from the tradepost, but if you have the series open, you might also get lucky and find one of the eggs in its natural habitat.
Where do we travel for Reading MAYnia?
You can always do challenges in New Yolk, but you'll get double points for completing them in travel locations. We'll start in Egglantis, then move to Sunny Side Cay, then visit our two other seasonal locations: Haunted House and North Pole.
APRIL: How do I participate in Shelby's Underwater Book Club?
Shelby's Underwater Book Club ended 11:59 pm GMT, Tuesday, April 30.
In April, find the tradepost icon with Shelby and her book. She'll be asking for Egglantis eggs and awarding prizes for contributions. If you want to refresh your memory about how tradepost events work, you can read our illustrated article about tradeposts. |
The Shelby's Underwater Book Club tradepost has 3 types of trades:
- Premium members can retrieve a free Dive Token once per day.
- Every day around midnight GMT, Shelby will ask for different eggs, and she'll award you "Leagues" for sending them. These trades will be one day only.
- Rewards for reaching milestones of Leagues traveled. Leagues will act like points, so they will not be "spent" as you complete trades. A new League milestone will be available every day (on a different schedule from egg requests), and they will stay available until the event ends.
A note about the tradepost and requested eggs:
If you find one of Shelby's requested eggs hunting, you can send the requested eggs from your basket report. Look for the Shelby Book Club icon to send it her way:
If you already stored the egg in question, you can send it to Shelby using the Sheldon button in your profile. Don't worry: he'll make sure to pass along your contributions to Shelby so you get credit!
What are leagues? What else do I get?
As you send Shelby eggs she requests, she'll award you "Leagues," and the more leagues you get, the more prizes you get! Yes, we know that leagues are a measurement of lateral distance, but we are treating them as points for this event -- you get to keep them. As you "travel" (accumulate) increasing numbers of Leagues, you'll be rewarded with fabulous prizes at each milestone. |
You'll get rewards like Travel Tickets, Goggle Time, Dive Tokens, Challenge Keys, and the special-event series for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
You will also receive Leagues for completing challenges in Egglantis during this book club event.
What can I buy with Leagues?
Nothing! They are a token to represent how far you've traveled.
Shelby is not deducting any Leagues for this tradepost, plus you get some for completing challenges, so your total may exceed 20,000 Leagues.
Dive Tokens? What's that?
Dive Tokens are new, explained in the updated Egglantis article.
Use Dive Tokens to fill up your new Oxygen Meter, then dive. You can find Dive Tokens drifting through Egglantis, or you can click on the Oxygen Meter to buy more.
Once you dive down to the Midnight Zone, you collect eggs by hovering over them, rather than with a single click. When your cursor is over a "dark-mode" egg, you'll see a red circle appear and start to turn green. Once the circle turns green, the special egg will fall into your basket.
During April 2024, Premium members can find a free Dive Token every day in the Shelby's Book Club tradepost.
You can also find something similar in the Dive Token Emporium by clicking on the Oxygen Meter.
Where do the O2 tokens go when I click on them?To your Oxygen Meter.
|
|
What's the difference between the colors of Dive Tokens?Everyone can get the orange ones. Only Premium members get the silvery ones.
|
How many tokens does it take to fill the Oxygen Meter? How do I know when the Oxygen Meter is full? We're not telling how many, but you will know the meter is full when the green goes to the top and you see the dive warning. |
More questions about diving and dark mode/Midnight Zone:
Most of these are answered in the main Egglantis article, but we're duplicating them here for convenience.
What am I diving for?
Special and rare eggs, including previous Exclusive and event series. For example: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Midnight Zone (of course), Anglerfish, Deep Sea Fishing Lures, Moby Dick, Sea Monster, Squid, Whale, Ocean Mystery, Black Lagoon, and more.
How do I dive?
Collect Dive Tokens to fill up your Oxygen Meter -- you can find them hunting, and/or you can buy them by clicking on the oxygen tank icon. This is like the volcano meter with offerings and tokens in Sunny Side Cay. Once your oxygen tank is full, you'll see a "dive warning" countdown. This is a good time to empty your basket to make sure you have room for all the dark mode eggs you're about to capture.
What happens when I'm in the Midnight Zone?
Once you dive down to the Midnight Zone, you collect eggs by hovering over them, rather than with a single click. When your cursor is over a "dark-mode" egg, you'll see a red circle appear and start to turn green. Once the circle turns green, the special egg will fall into your basket. This is like the "Ghost Haunt" in the Haunted House.
What are the new series and how do I find them?
- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Shelby will award these for contributing to her book club, but if you read ahead, you just might find them in the Midnight Zone (dark mode).
- Surface Fishing Lures (yellow): regular hunting in Egglantis
- Deep Sea Fishing Lures (purple): huntable when you dive down to the Midnight Zone
- Squid (exclusive/diamond): huntable when you dive down to the Midnight Zone
- Kelpie (orange): regular hunting in Egglantis
- Silly Sharks (green): regular hunting in Egglantis
