One of the most common types of Hatchlings events is the Tradepost Event. They may be styled with different themes (e.g. Shelby's Book Club, Santa Sheldon’s Advent Calendar, etc.), but at their core, they’re all tradepost events. Read on to learn how to complete trades with the best of ‘em!

What is a trade?
A trade is when you exchange an in-game item, such as an egg, ticket, or currency, for a different item, such as decorations, shells, or limited-edition eggs. Sometimes, trades are also set up as achievement milestones, so you get a reward without sacrificing something. This will be familiar to anyone who's completed Challenge MAYnia before.
When a tradepost event is live, you’ll see an event icon near the top of the "icon tray" on the left side of your game screen. When you click an icon to open a tradepost, you will see a dialog with a description of the event, your event currency total, and a list of offers/trades with status buttons.
As you can see above, here's what the trade buttons might say:
- REDEEM – You have met the criteria to complete this trade – but you should only click REDEEM if you want to complete the trade (some trades may take items or currency from your balance).
- FINISHED! – You have already completed this one-time trade. ✔️
- GOOD WORK! - You will see this on recurring trades you’ve redeemed, along with a countdown to when you can redeem again. Keep reading for more on recurring trades.
- [X of Y SENT] – This shows your progress toward completing the trade, indicating how many more eggs you need to send before you can redeem for your reward. In the example above, the person needs to send one more egg, then the button will change to Redeem.
You'll see an "Ends in" countdown timer if the offer expires before the tradepost ends.
Make sure you read what you’re trading in for the reward, as trades can’t be reversed once they’re completed! Some trades will deduct items or currency from your inventory.
How do I complete a trade?
A trade is completed when you click the REDEEM button, as shown above -- but how do we get to that point? In most tradepost events, you’ll be trading in eggs to get rewards. There are a few options to see what eggs are needed and send them in, including a couple that are options only for Premium members:
1. From the basket report.
Sending eggs to Sheldon (or whichever character is the event host) from your basket report works for Premium members who have found the egg or retrieved it from their vault. Here's an example of what it looked like to send an egg to Sheldon during our Camper Coin event:
A special icon appears in the basket report, next to the requested egg. Clicking on it lets you send an egg directly to Sheldon.
Then, the icon fades. |
2. From the Collection section of your Profile.
Sheldon may request more than one egg for a single task, so storage will be extra handy during such events! Premium Members can save requested eggs to storage, then send Sheldon the eggs he needs all at once through the "Sheldon" tab of their profile. This button will only appear if Sheldon is, in fact, requesting eggs. It will not appear if no tradepost is active, or if you have already sent Sheldon all the eggs he needs.
(If another character is requesting the eggs, you can count on Sheldon to share with them!)
3. Using the "Send to Friend" button.
If you aren't sending from the basket report, there's no need to send a friend request to Sheldon or Shelby – during a tradepost event, the egg requester will automatically appear at the top of your friends list, so you can send eggs the same way you would to any friend. Click here to learn about gifting eggs. Here's an example from Shelby's Underwater Book Club:
Other types of trades may ask you to trade in inventory items, such as Travel Tickets, in exchange for rewards. If you have enough of the requested item in your inventory already, you can click Redeem to complete the trade immediately.
Some events also feature exclusive extra tasks that only Premium members can complete for additional rewards. Make sure your Premium is up-to-date so you can take full advantage!
What are recurring trades?
Some trades you can complete just once. Some trades are limited only by what you have the inventory to trade in. Other trades RECUR on a set schedule -- once per day is common, but they can recur on any schedule. The example below shows a daily recurring trade where Premium members received special event currency (Electrum) once per day.
The trade button says GOOD WORK! here because the person has redeemed the offer at least once and now has to wait another 20 hours and 17 minutes before they can complete the trade again. When that time has elapsed, the button will again say REDEEM.
What are doublers?
Doublers let you pay shells to multiply your reward! They're not on every trade, but they can help you get ahead in events like Challenge MAYnia.
When you click "Redeem" for a trade that has a doubler, it will ask if you want to pay to double your reward. In the example pictured here, that means spending 100 shells for an extra travel ticket. Click "Get 2x Reward" if you want to spend the shells to get extra rewards. Click "Claim Normal Reward" if you do not want that. |
